One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is that there are so many great places to escape for a day trip. I love being a day tripper because it’s liberating and an opportunity to escape the daily grind. Day trippin to Solvang, CA is only a two hour drive North of Los Angeles (approx 132 miles).

Traveling Internationally is not necessary to experience a taste of Denmark. Solvang is a special place, a Danish town that consists of unique boutiques, wine tasting, restaurants, and Danish bakeries.

One can experience Danish style architecture that feels like being in Denmark without the 13 hour flight to Copenhagen.Solvang, CADutch window in SolvangDutch house in Solvang, CADutch home - SolvangDutch style Solvang, CAAlthough it has nothing to do with Solvang’s Danish style, a must visit is the Old Mission Santa Inés. Founded in 1804, Old Mission Santa Inés has been beautifully preserved and offers a museum of the early life in California. Solvang was built up around the mission in the early 1900’s.Mission Santa InesMission Santa Ines SolvangAnother great spot to check out is OstrichLand USA. Home of 50 ostriches and emus, OstrichLand is a real treat of where these beautiful wild creatures can be fed. It’s only a small admission fee of $5 for adults and $1 for kids under 12. I never knew how strong these animals were until doing a feeding. Hold on the the pan because they’ll knock it right out of your hands!Ostrichland Solvang Ostrichland SolvangOstrich at Ostrichland SolvangIn addition, Quicksilver Ranch, home to miniature horses, is another great experience. These miniature beauties are a lot of fun to observe and very gentle. There are no petting areas, but you can get up close.miniature horses quicksilver ranchFeeling hungry? One place you’ve gotta try is Paula’s Pancake House. These Danish pancakes are to die for! It’s generally a wait to be seated, but it’s definitely worth it.Paula's Pancake House Solvang, CAAlso set aside time for wine! Throughout the town, there are several places to stop in for a wine tasting or just take a break, sit back, and enjoy a glass of wine. A couple favorites I enjoyed was Dascomb Cellars and Wandering Dog Wine Barwine tasting Solvang, CANot certain where to begin your Solvang adventure? Consider taking the Solvang Trolley.
