The last time I was in Washington D.C. was 2010. It’s incredible how quickly time flies!
The other weekend I had the opportunity to return to D.C. to visit my friend Antonette Artiz, after her fabulous visit to Los Angeles, as you can see in my first vlog here. It was the perfect weekend getaway – a girls weekend (just what the doctor ordered). Although I’ve been to Washington D.C./Maryland many of times, there is always something new and different to do.
The main objective of the weekend was to attend the Maxwell & Mary J. Blidge concert: King and Queen Tour, but we had time to squeeze in a lot more fun. I love meeting new people and it was a blast hanging out with Antonette’s fabulous friends, as well as her awesome and lovable family. I got the opportunity to dine at delectable restaurants, visit with old friends, and check out new sites.
It was my first time visiting the National Harbor. Everyone is so excited about the new MGM Hotel & Casino opening next month. It’s definitely a ‘looker’ and I want to come back to see how it compares to the MGM in Las Vegas. Statues seemed to be the theme of the visit as I got to see plenty of them. This particular one is called The Awakening. I thought it was a man suffering, but he’s actually waking up. Antonette is not a fan of statues so I do appreciate her taking a few of my statue photos.
I first took a selfie, but then realized there is no way you can see the magnitude in size of this beauty unless you’re standing right next to it.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to connect to a lot of my other wonderful friends that live in the area, so next time I have to plan for a longer visit.
Weekend trips visiting uplifting people is definitely an incredible elixir for the soul!
